About Me

I am Dr. Behaylu Yibe, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and a practicing Pediatrician and Pediatric Neurologist at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Science. As an energetic, diligent, and devoted lecturer, my professional mission is to provide exemplary care for children with neurological conditions while actively working to expand equitable medical education across Africa.

My journey in medicine has been driven by a passion for both healing and teaching. Since 2018, I have had the privilege of serving as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Addis Ababa University's College of Health Science. In this role, I lecture undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents, lead clinical rounds, and conduct simulation training. To foster a collaborative learning environment, I even created a social media platform for our pediatric residents to discuss clinical cases. As the current Undergraduate Coordinator, I have the rewarding responsibility of guiding students through their rotations, monitoring their progress, and mentoring them as they develop into capable and compassionate medical professionals.

My own educational path began at Addis Ababa University, where I earned my Medical Degree with distinction. I continued my training there, completing a specialty in Pediatrics and Child Health, where I was honored with the best resident award and achieved the highest exam score in my department. More recently, I completed a subspecialty in Pediatric Neurology, a joint program between Addis Ababa University and Aga Khan University.

Beyond my clinical and academic roles, I am a dedicated advocate for child health and neurological awareness. I am a board member of the Ethiopian Neurology Association and a proud founding fellow of the Early Childhood Development Curriculum Committee for the East, Central, and Southern Africa College of Pediatrics and Child Health (ECSAPACH). You may have heard me on FM radio or seen me on national television, as I frequently participate in interviews to raise public awareness about epilepsy and other pediatric diseases.

My commitment extends to hands-on community service. I volunteer as a neurologist for Care Epilepsy Ethiopia, an NGO where I was honored to be named Best Physician, and as a pediatrician for the Kibebe Tsehay Orphanage.

My goal is to combine my expertise in pediatric neurology with my passion for education to make a lasting impact. Whether I am in the clinic managing complex neurological cases, in the lecture hall inspiring future doctors, or in the community advocating for my patients, I am driven by a singular purpose: to ensure every child has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
